Training Room Design Considerations by Jennifer Way, Interior Concepts

Training rooms are an important part of the contact center. These spaces help the company educate and communicate the skills needed for the job to new hires and are continually used for additional training needs. Knowing the purpose of the room and identifying important design features during the planning phase of a build-out or redesign can maximize functionality once the space is in use.

Think about the questions below when designing your training space to determine the best furniture solution and space layout for your training room needs.

Will the room always be used for training or will it be a multi-purpose room?

If a multi-purpose room is designed then a powered table solution might be the best furniture solution to create a flexible training space. Powered tables are easy to move around if needed while still having the capacity to house a computer and a CPU.

Does the room need be used for an overflow area for agents during peak seasons?

If the space is used for an overflow for agents then it might make sense to mirror the stations that are on the contact center floor. This solution will give training agents the feeling of actual work experience while allowing the space to seamlessly transition to an overflow area when needed.

What is the desired orientation of the furniture in the room?

Knowing the layout of the room will help during the space planning process since the room orientation may affect how many people and what size stations will fit into the space. The orientation will also help to determine if your desired layout will match existing power access in the room or if outlets need to be moved or added.

Will the room need an instruction desk or podium at the front?

Depending on the needs of the training instructor a desk with storage for training materials and personal items might be needed. Other options include podiums, or a table depending on the technology and materials that the instructor needs.
