Case Study
Infinity Sales Group is a retailer for Fortune 200 partners, delivering strategic marketing, brand recognition, and consistent sales performance to each collaboration. The company has more than 400 employees working at its corporate headquarters located in Boca Raton, Florida. Within its first two years of growth, Infinity Sales Group became the largest authorized satellite television DISH Network® retailer in North America. In order to keep up with their rapid growth, Infinity needed to embrace new technology.

From 2009 to 2011, Infinity Sales Group grew from 80 employees to 460. Ben Remsa, a technology integrator assessing Infinity Sales Group, felt that Pano Logic would be a perfect solution for Infinity’s rapidly expanding business, especially its call center. Owning PCs can be costly, not just because of expensive warranties, but also due to the labor associated with maintaining and managing individual desktops. Infinity initially considered using thin clients for their company, but found the management was very cumbersome, and time consuming, requiring FTP servers and batch updates. Rather than installing problem-prone PCs, Infinity chose the redundant and resilient architecture of Pano Logic’s virtual desktops. The implementation went so well that Infinity hired Remsa as vice president of IT.

Centralized Management
The greatest advantage Infinity gained from converting to Pano Zero Client devices was the ability to centralize computing for its entire company. By shifting all desktop processing to the server, the IT managers could manage every endpoint from a single interface accessible from their own desks, or from any Pano device on the system. Prior to implementing Pano Logic and before its tremendous growth, Infinity Sales Group employed two IT helpdesk workers, who spent 80 percent of their time walking the floor to maintain refurbished PCs for 80 workers. Pano Logic has streamlined the IT department, even as the rest of the company continues to grow. Since the deployment, Infinity has scaled back to one helpdesk IT worker, who manages the 460 seat Pano Logic environment centrally from his desk all by himself, and it doesn’t occupy his full day – only about half. That’s an 800% decrease in IT resources required. Another boon to IT departments is the fact that Pano Logic’s little chrome cubes work right out of the box. Pano devices are called zero clients because they don’t include any of the failure-prone moving parts, no processors, no memory, no client OS, no firmware, no local drivers or local storage to worry about, virtual desktops are extraordinarily simple to maintain. Pano Logic rescues IT from the escalating overhead of managing and securing distributed PCs, reducing costs, resources and complexity.

Boosting Productivity While Reducing Maintenance and Energy Costs
Infinity’s conversion to Pano devices dramatically decreased their operating expenses in several ways. Not only are Pano devices significantly less expensive than PCs up-front, they also require minimal maintenance and support. Furthermore, application performance in Pano virtual desktops is comparable to PCs or other clients, and is significantly faster in some scenarios, like boot time and app loading time. With downtime and hardware issues eliminated and faster login and load times, agents can be more productive handling calls and making sales. In addition to reducing Infinity’s maintenance costs, Pano Logic also slashed its energy bills. Compared to PCs, Pano devices consume much less energy and produce very little heat. The 308 seats on the sales floor have Cisco 7965 VoIP phones that run off Ethernet and the Panos are daisy-chained off the phones. Because each workstation (Pano plus phone) consumes less than 10 watts, Infinity was able to meet ENERGY STAR requirements for their building.

Infinity, a blossoming business bent on modernizing their technology, started deploying Pano Logic in January 2009 and completed deployment within six months. Today Infinity has 14 VMware hosts pushing 460 VMs and they are 100% virtualized. The entire company has Panos on their desks, including the executives, but no one considers them any different from corporate PCs. As far as Infinity Sales Group is concerned, the only difference between Pano Logic and PCs is that Pano Logic is less expensive and easier to manage.
